Help for Home and Family Caregivers
If you’re a family caregiver and you look around the internet for education on how to help your loved one with dementia, you’re almost certainly going to only find technical, clinical training for professional caregivers who operate in a setting where they have back-up and get to go home at the end of their shift.
This is not that.
This is training for you, the relative of a person living with dementia, written by an industry veteran who is also the adult child of a mother with dementia.
This training is also about you. You are not a professional caregiver, and you have struggles and pressures that the pros don’t.
You have to worry about the finances.
You have to get in the car, terrified, if your loved one wanders off.
You have to deal with the guilt trips from family members who don’t lift a finger to help.
You have to lose sleep.
You have to watch your friendships, marriages, and relationships with your children deteriorate as you care for someone who is combative or emotionally hurtful.
And YOU are why elumenEd exists.
This is candid talk about caregiving. We’re going to talk about the things that the big corporations can’t or won’t say as they protect their image. We’re going to talk about the emotions you would never be able to admit to in front of people who don’t get it. We’re going to talk about how to survive.
Free Member’s Library
elumenEd has several offerings on dementia and care, from info on the basics of dementia to crisis management techniques for caregivers.
eBooks and docs
Most of our printable PDF documents are available as digital downloads free of charge.
They cover topics from enriching our loved ones’ lives to creating real moments of self-care and disaster management. (This is not the same old regurgitated “find a yoga class and be mindful” self -care advice, by the way.)
elumenEd guides are written in plain English and are meant for people who don’t necessarily have any background in caregiving. I hope everyone can learn from them, even pros, but they are designed to be readable, even enjoyable!, for people who’ve never had any professional experience. That’s what we’re all about.
online LESSONS
elumenEd’s online lessons are interactive training produced using exceptional technology and designed to give you realistic, usable information instead of the usual sterile, clinical training with - well, let’s face it - lies about how these techniques will always work. No one has all of the answers, there are no perfect solutions, and these training modules won’t insult you by pretending everything is ok.
This training tries to be honest above all else. No sugar-coating here, which means that the good things we discover together, the hopes and joys, are also real. There are truly difficult, even horrible, moments in this journey. There is also community and kindness. Click “Learn more” to see more about our community.
