Catching Fireflies
The logo for eluemenEd is a firefly because that tells the whole story of who I am and what the company does.
First, I believe that small things, even as small as a firefly, make a huge difference in our world. There is a saying in China and Japan that “one thing is ten thousand things.” They mean that you can look at how a person does a single thing and know their attitude toward everything. You may feel as small as a firefly, but you still make a big difference in this world. Imagine what we could do together.
Second, I want us all to shine (even if it shines, like a firefly, out of our butts!). St. Francis of Assisi said, “All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle.” A little bit of light goes a long way, and I believe that we can create more than a little bit of light together.
Last, there’s something magical about fireflies: they take me back to my youth, running after the floating lights in my back yard. Somehow they gave the world an aura of deep sacredness and effervescent youth at the same time. In those moments of my childhood, the world became joyous and beautiful and brimming with all of the possibility that life had to offer. I believe that we can reclaim those moments for ourselves and our loved ones as we learn to bring our best selves and the best care techniques to the table. It isn’t quite magic, but it will feel like it for both us and our loved ones with dementia.
It’s a beautiful journey, and you’re invited. Turn on your light and lets illuminate the dark spaces together.
